Prepare Your Home for Professional Painters

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR HOME FOR PROFESSIONAL PAINTERS

You just booked a professional painter to transform a room in your home that you’ve been dreaming about for some time now. You look around and imagine the fresh coat of paint on your walls, ceilings and cabinets. At Makley Painting, we feel so fortunate to be welcomed into so many Central Ohio homes to make that transformation a reality for homeowners like you. With us, you can rest assured your interior residential paint project will be done professionally and with great attention to detail. However, before the magic happens, there are a few ways to prepare your home.

Move furniture to the middle of the room

Furniture is heavy and not everyone may have storage space to utilize during a renovation. Moving furniture to the center of a room is adequate, and the team of professional painters will appreciate the open space to work. While we take care to cover your furnishings and important items in each room, you may feel comfortable covering your furniture with old sheets just to give you peace of mind. If you don’t have the materials needed to cover your furniture, the professionals at Makley Painting will take care of everything.

Remove all wall décor, curtains, and electronics

To ensure your beloved portraits, paintings, and drapes are not damaged, store them away in a separate room. It’s also a good idea to remove any cords and electronics to be safe. It’s not the end of the world if you forget to remove every picture or mirror, but knowing where you place your belongings will prevent any confusion. Moving your items beforehand eases your mind of valuables getting lost, broken, or damaged.

Dust and spot clean walls for best results

Wiping away stains, dust, and cobwebs will help with the application of paint. Cleaning walls will prevent dirt from becoming permanent. You might find some stains harder to scrub off. In that case, try using detergent with water. Of course, make sure your walls are completely dry before the painting begins. Give yourself a few days as this process can be overwhelming in large rooms!

Plan accordingly for children and pets

While we are quite flexible with regard to working around the busy lifestyles of our clients, the painting process goes more quickly and smoothly if the painting team doesn’t have to work around pets, children, or other things that might make working quickly and efficiently a challenge. If you can give the team the time and room that they need to work, your job will be done quickly and professionally.

Taking the time to prepare your home for painters will save you time, and might even allow for less stress and a more enjoyable experience. Be prepared to welcome a talented, professional team into your home--they value a job well done just as much as you!
